About Me

Like most photographers, I started taking pictures pretty young. I started with a Canon Owl point-and-shoot (a film camera), and later invested around $60 (it was a lot of money to me then!), combined with the money my mom was willing to contribute, to buy an even better point-and-shoot.

At age 14, my parents gave me my very first SLR (still film) for Christmas - I cried. Seriously. I used it on every family outing and took countless pictures of our ranch, our family, and other activities in my life. My sisters and I would do photo shoots for fun. Having no clue what I was doing, I tried to set up a studio in my basement and used lamps and sheets for lighting and backdrops. The pictures didn't turn out to be absolutely amazing, but I had so much fun doing it and it fueled my passion even more. I spent a lot of money on film processing!

Three years ago (it feels longer!) a family friend hired me to shoot their wedding and I went out and invested in my first DSLR. It was my first wedding - I shot all in .jpg in Progam mode, and did almost no editing on the images - the only software I had came with my camera. But, the couple loved the pictures, and I was hooked! Don't worry - I've come a long way since then!

I then started doing family shoots for friends and family, and discovered that a kit lens just doesn't help you out much, so I invested in my first prime lens - a 50 mm 1.4. This is the lens I use for everything - love it!

I kept on doing family shoots, individuals, a few weddings, and I still do! I got married in May 2009, so I'm still pretty much a newlywed, but having experienced a huge event like that in my life makes me more excited to capture memories for other people. I am constantly reading articles and blogs and learning more about photography - it's the one hobby I've never been bored with, and I don't think I ever will be!
